  {"id":44,"date":"2024-06-19T13:32:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T18:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/advising-and-career\/?page_id=44"},"modified":"2024-06-24T14:35:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T19:35:32","slug":"guide-for-transfer-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eastcentral.edu\/advising-and-career\/transfer-advising\/guide-for-transfer-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Guide for Transfer Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Select a major<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need help selecting a major, please contact ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Student Service Center to set up an appointment.\u00a0 You can reach them by calling 636-584-6588.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meet with your advisor often<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only can your academic advisor help you keep on track for graduation, but your advisor is also a great source of information for other education questions you may have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keep your course syllabi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping the course syllabus for every course you complete will become beneficial when it comes time for you to transfer.&nbsp; If your transfer school has questions about course content, the answer is often outlined in the syllabus.&nbsp; This is particularly helpful when transferring out of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduating from ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø with an Associate of Arts degree<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some benefits to graduating with the AA degree or 42-hour general education block:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some scholarships are dependent on the degree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At all Missouri public colleges, and many private, your lower-division general educations requirements will be met.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some colleges will accept more hours in transfer with a degree or the 42-hour block than without.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, if your plan is to transfer to another institution, the coursework you take here should be dependent on your transfer school requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research transfer schools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not every school has every major.&nbsp; Some things to consider when researching:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transfer admissions policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Size of campus AND classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cost and financial aid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accreditation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Living arrangements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Visit your prospective school<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every school has its own \u201cfeel\u201d.&nbsp; The best way to be sure you have picked the right transfer school is to arrange a visit and tour the campus.&nbsp; You can often meet with department representatives on these tours, so be sure to take along your unofficial transcript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Find out the admission and curriculum requirements for your program of study<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The requirements for admission into a particular field of study may not be the same as admission to the university as a whole.&nbsp; For example, you may be accepted into a university but still have prerequisite courses to complete, or GPA requirements to establish, before being accepted into a program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things you should do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit the program website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call\/email an advisor in the department at the transfer school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schedule a visit to tour the school and meet with the department.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep in touch with your transfer school. Work with the transfer equivalencies websites so you know how your courses here will transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apply for admission and financial aid\/scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you complete their admissions application, all financial aid forms, and send official transcripts from every school attended.&nbsp; Some admissions offices may require letters of recommendation or essays.&nbsp; There are also financial aid deadlines for scholarships, so apply early!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Things to do in your final semester at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Request an official transcript be sent at the completion of the semester.&nbsp; (you should already have sent one transcript as a part of the admissions process)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply for ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø graduation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend a transfer orientation, if offered<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrange to enroll as early as possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finalize your housing arrangements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Figure out your finances (grants, loans, scholarships)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Things to do after transfer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It isn\u2019t always easy to integrate into a new school, so, get involved!&nbsp;&nbsp; Join a departmental club or student government.&nbsp; Find a study group.&nbsp; Participate in research opportunities or internships, if available.&nbsp; By getting involved you will not only develop relationships with other students, but you will also gather resume-building experience and networking opportunities for life after college.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Select a major If you need help selecting a major, please contact ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Student Service Center to set up an appointment.\u00a0 You can reach them by calling 636-584-6588.
