Eaton Children&#8217;s Collection<br><\/strong>In February 1991, the <a href=\"\/library\/\"><span class=\"s1\">ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Library<\/span><\/a> received a grant from the Harrison M. Eaton Memorial Fund to expand and enhance the Library&#8217;s Children&#8217;s Literature Collection.&nbsp; The Fund provided for the purchase of over 200 works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry selected from winners of the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Newbery%20Medal&amp;sort=title\"><span class=\"s1\">Newbery Medal<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Caldecott%20Medal&amp;sort=title\"><span class=\"s1\">Caldecott Medal<\/span><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Mark%20Twain%20Award&amp;sort=title\"><span class=\"s1\">Mark Twain awards<\/span><\/a>. Additional titles were selected from librarian-recommended lists. The Harrison M. Eaton Memorial Fund continues to purchase of an average of 20 children&#8217;s books per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p4\">The Harrison M. Eaton Children&#8217;s Literature Collection is vital to the mission of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Library, providing reading material for children and fulfilling the reading requirement for students in the Children&#8217;s Literature course, taught as part of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø&#8217;s Elementary Education curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p4\">The Harrison M. Eaton Fund was opened to receive memorial gifts from the many friends, relatives, and business associates of Harrison Eaton after he passed away in December 1989.&nbsp; As a proponent of quality education, Mr. Eaton devoted a considerable amount of time and effort to the educational community, in particular to ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.&nbsp; One of the organizers of the college district, he went on to serve on the college board of trustees for more than 12 years, six of those as vice-president.&nbsp; Mr. Eaton was also an advocate of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Foundation of which he was a charter life director and charter life member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p4\">The Eaton Fund provides funding for the betterment of the college through memorial projects selected by the Eaton family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p and illustrator of the most distinguished contribution to the body of American children\u2019s literature known as beginning reader books published in the United States during the preceding year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Belpre%20Medal.&amp;sort=title\">Belpr\u00e9 Medal<\/a>: <\/strong><\/span>honors a Latino\/Latina writer and illustrator who best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in literature for children and youth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Batchelder%20Award&amp;sort=title\">Batchelder Award<\/a>: <\/strong><\/span>given to an American publisher for a children&#8217;s book considered to be the most outstanding or those published in a foreign language and country and then translated and published in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=sibert%20medal&amp;sort=title\">Sibert Medal<\/a>: <\/strong><\/span>honors authors and illustrators of the most distinguished informational book published during the preceding year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Coretta%20Scott%20King%20Award&amp;sort=title\">Coretta Scott King Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> promotes understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples and their contribution to the realization of the American dream by African American authors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=scott%20o%27Dell%20award&amp;sort=title\">Scott O&#8217;Dell Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> awarded to author of book on historical fiction for children or young adults, published in the preceding year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Stonewall%20Medal&amp;sort=title\"><strong>Stonewall Book Award-Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children\u2019s and Young Adult Literature Award<\/strong><\/a>: presented to works honoring exceptional merit relating to the gay\/lesbian\/bisexual\/transgender experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Missouri Children&#8217;s Awards\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=missouri%20building%20block%20award&amp;sort=title\">Missouri Building Block Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> voted the most popular by preschool children in Missouri&#8217;s public libraries and is designed to encourage reading aloud to children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=show%20me%20award\">Show Me Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> purpose is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in grades one through three in Missouri elementary schools and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of these children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Mark%20Twain%20Award&amp;sort=title\">Mark Twain Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> purpose is to provide Missouri children in grades four through eight with their very own source to enrich their lives through reading.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Truman%20Readers%20Award\">Truman Readers Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> encourages students in the early teen years to express their unique voice through exploring new literary genres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastcentral.searchmobius.org\/search?option=subject&amp;query=Gateway%20Readers%20Award\">Gateway Readers Award<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> goal is to encourage young adults (grades 9 through 12) in Missouri to select and read quality literature that appeal to their needs, interests and reading levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p5\"><strong><br>Children\u2019s DVDs<br><\/strong>The children\u2019s DVDs and Blu-rays are shelved alphabetically by title within the feature film collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Search the <a
